Discovering Embodied Processing: How It Transformed My Healing Journey
Have you ever felt like no matter how much you talk about certain issues—whether it’s anxiety, past traumas, or relationship struggles—you still find yourself stuck in a loop of discomfort or pain? That was me a few years ago. Traditional talk therapy helped me understand my problems intellectually, but I still felt disconnected from my body, emotions, and deeper sense of self. Then I discovered Embodied Processing.
I’m not going to go into heavy detail about what Embodied Processing is—the founders themselves do a fantastic job of explaining it in their blog article here. But I do want to share how this practice has helped me and others on our healing journeys.
My Experience With Embodied Processing
A Deeper Connection to My Body
One of the biggest shifts I noticed was learning to actually “feel” my emotions. Rather than staying in my head or trying to rationalize them away, I learned to drop into my body and sense where those emotions were stored. It was fascinating—and sometimes surprising—to discover how experiences I thought I’d “dealt with” were still showing up as tightness in my chest or tension in my jaw.Transforming Old Patterns
Embodied Processing doesn’t just help you become aware of emotions; it guides you to release them. I found myself letting go of old beliefs and pain I’d been carrying for years, all by gently and compassionately acknowledging them in my body. It was a big moment of freedom.Increased Self-Compassion
As I learned to process trauma and stress through my body, I also started extending more kindness to myself. If I noticed a painful spot or an anxiety bubble rising, I’d stay with it, breathe, and offer myself empathy instead of judgment. This made a world of difference in my overall well-being.Impact on Others in My Life
Embodied Processing didn’t just help me; friends who tried it found they were no longer feeling hijacked by their emotions in daily life. Instead of feeling overwhelmed by stress, they started meeting difficult moments with a sense of calm, presence, and resourcefulness.
